During their work, a few interesting points popped up. There are two aspects which are noteworthy. One was that a (perceived) healthy food doesn\u2019t have to be healthy, like <g class=\"gr_ gr_11 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"11\" data-gr-id=\"11\">yogurt<\/g> in this instance. Another one is that something that has <g class=\"gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"8\" data-gr-id=\"8\">only<\/g> little amount of carbohydrates by nature<g class=\"gr_ gr_35 gr-alert sel gr_gramm gr_replaced gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"35\" data-gr-id=\"35\"><\/g> often gets stuffed with a lot of sugar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After analysing the market, the researchers covered around 75% of the grocery market share of the 5 major UK supermarkets. I believe it&#8217;s fair to say, they covered places and products (total of 921) that people in the UK would actually buy and consume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>One of the next steps was the question of how to\nclassify the different products. These positive effects of yogurt are why they are a recommended food by different official health organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also evidence that a regular <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">yogurt<\/g> consumption may link to a healthier metabolism (read <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007%2Fs00394-014-0735-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this<\/a>). As a consequence<g class=\"gr_ gr_7 gr-alert sel gr_gramm gr_replaced gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"7\" data-gr-id=\"7\">,<\/g> these kind of products <g class=\"gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace\" id=\"6\" data-gr-id=\"6\">are<\/g> popular in the supermarkets. There is evidence that low-fat diets aren\u2019t necessarily a problem of obesity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, calories are the problem and these are often hidden in products. Especially low-sugar products contain more fat than they need to. Adding fat to a product is cheap (if you use poor quality fat sources) and it enhances the flavour profile greatly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fat is essential to the human metabolism and over the last couple of years, I read enough to realize that the source of fat is of utmost importance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All that said, people buy what they think is right. Public claims from governments to eat low-fat are what people have been conditioned to believe is healthy. <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ajcn\/article\/103\/4\/979\/4662886?ijkey=962ecd622b557de3854d7d5e6dd6c6d5c11fca45&amp;keytype2=tf_ipsecsha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">There\u2019s evidence to eat high-fat products though, as they seem to be protective against belly fat<\/a> (the worst place to store fat on your body).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/annals.org\/aim\/article-abstract\/1846638\/association-dietary-circulating-supplement-fatty-acids-coronary-risk-systematic-review?doi=10.7326%2fM13-1788\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> gave even more reason to question the current dietary guidelines of low-fat, low-sugar but refined carbohydrate intake in regards of cardiovascular risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ugly\nmarketing practices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we have established that yogurt <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">consumption,<\/g> if you can digest lactose properly, seems to have beneficial effects on your overall health. We know that diets high in sugar are linked to obesity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not necessarily because of the sugar itself, but as they <a href=\"https:\/\/nutritionj.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12937-016-0225-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tend to add many calories to peoples lifestyles<\/a>. That said, there seems to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/0022034513508954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">positive effect on dental health (less caries) when restricting sugar intake<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sugar\ncontent of different yogurt groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers found in their analysis that <strong>dessert yogurts had the most amount of sugar, with an average of 16,4% of <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert sel gr_gramm gr_replaced gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">a <\/g>100g product<\/strong>.
