The beginning of Tao of Stefan – A Blogventure

After some time of procrastination and waiting for the right moment to start my blogventure, it’s finally time for this idea to start and the beginning of Tao of Stefan. As the title says it’s a new beginning. Not only in terms of me writing, sharing thoughts, ideas and experiences with you all, but also a new beginning for and within myself.

The Tao

You might have wondered about the name of my blog taoofstefan. I’d like to give you little insight about why I chose that name. If you look at the source of the name, “Tao” (道) is the important part. Tao of course leads us directly to Taoism (道教) which is described on wikipedia as

“a philosophical, ethical or religious tradition of Chinese origin, or faith of Chinese exemplification, that emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao.”

Moving forward wikipedia defines Tao as

a Chinese concept signifying ‘way’, ‘path’, ‘route’, or sometimes more loosely, ‘doctrine’ or ‘principle’. Within the context of traditional Chinese philosophy and religion, The Tao is the intuitive knowing of “life” that of which cannot be grasped full-heartedly as just a concept but known nonetheless through actual living experience of one’s everyday being.”

Now, without getting very religious, spiritual or philosophical, the blog will be my “way”, “principles” or “life” for that matter. My posts will be about things I care about or subjects I want to share my thoughts with you.

The Blog

Therefore what I’m going to write about starting today, will not be subjected to any specific topic, such as cooking, finance, or health like many other blogs. It will rather be about things that I feel like writing about. Nevertheless, there will be a few recurring major topics as those are close to my heart. In one way or another they are a huge part of my life. For the time being those topics can be grouped as shown below:

  • Mindfulness, spirituality, zen
  • Qi gong / tai chi and traditional Chinese medicine,
  • Yoga and Ayurveda,
  • Health in general,
  • Martial Arts,
  • Cooking,
  • Finance,
  • Entertainment, i.e. books, graphic novels, mangas, movies, music and finally
  • Life, the Universe and Everything

In the spirit of Taoism and yin and yang, where it’s believed that every reaction creates a counteraction, I would be delighted to receive your thoughts about my posts. Maybe you agree with my thoughts, maybe not. Whichever case it might be, I am happy to listen and discuss. Maybe at one point there is something you’d like to read about I haven’t covered or not as much as you like. No problem, let me know and we’ll see what can be done.
