In my natural supplements series post about the popular turmeric root, I wrote about several aspects of why to use it and how you could potentially use the root for your health benefit. Today’s article will give you a quick and easy recipe that will get all those benefits into your system. Let’s make some golden paste.
Golden Paste: Top Health Benefits of Turmeric

Golden Paste: How to Make it
The way to make golden paste is incredibly easy. Down below you’ll find the detailed recipe but in short, all you really have to do is mix the water with the powder, let it simmer for a moment and you’re done.
Are you into the low carb lifestyle?
If you read my article about turmeric you will recall that the bio-availability of turmeric is poor. This can be easily changed by adding piperine in the form of black pepper to the mix. That is what you absolutely should do for the paste, too. On top of that, fat enhances bio availability even further. So add some fat to the mix. A good source of fat would be coconut oil.
That’s the basic idea of the golden paste. You can add some ginger to the mix (dried or fresh) or other spices you fancy. In case you want to make a drink out of it, you might want to add a sweetener like raw honey or maple syrup to the paste.
As the mix is fast to make, you can always make small batches and play around with the optional ingredients. Share your experiments!
Golden Paste: How to Use it
In my eyes you can use, i. e. consume, the paste in three ways
- spoon it directly,
- make a drink or a
- dish out of it
Depending on my mood I either just eat a spoon or two a day as a prophylactic measure for above-mentioned issues. Or I make a drink, the so-called golden milk, out of it.
Golden Paste: Golden Milk
Once you have your golden paste ready for consumption all you need to do to actually make golden milk is add one or two teaspoons to your favourite milk, stir and enjoy. It also works well with water or in broth.
I personally use plant-based milk, mostly nut milk for my daily golden milk “injection”. Since I drink it for the benefits, I usually make a kind of big shot out of it but feel free to make a full warm cup of golden milk, read a cool article (like mine 😉 ) or a book and enjoy the soothing feeling of this drink.
- 120 g turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground This is the bare minimum in my opinion. Add more to taste and tolerance.
- 30 g coconut oil If you are a biohacker, you can also use MCT or C8 oil.
- 750 ml water You might need some more.
- 4 tablespoons maple syrup optional
- 1 teaspoon ginger, freshly ground optional
- Mix half of the water with the turmeric in a pot and bring to a boil.
- Let simmer for around 10 minutes until you have a thick paste. During those 10 minutes stir frequently and add as much water as appropriate to keep it simmering without burning.
- In the end, you add your pepper and your fat. If you chose to follow my recipe you can add the optional ingredients, too.
- Stir everything properly and put into airtight containers.
- I have my golden paste in the fridge and used this batch for ~ 4 weeks.
This is a big batch of golden paste. You might want to start with half of the recipe in case you aren't sure you will love it.
Great recipe how often should it be taken daily for joint pain
Thanks for the positive feedback. I am happy that you enjoy the recipe 🙂
As the recipe is a natural remedy (as far as a plant can do that), you probably want to have it frequently. Maybe give it a try 3 times a day for a week or two and see how it feels. You can use the paste in the morning and evening as a drink for golden milk. For lunch, you can start to have curry too.
I have to say that this isn’t medical advice, though. That being said, please note that the paste might only alleviate the symptoms. This means you’d have to find the root cause of the issue and heal that part too. As this might be a personal thing, please feel free to write me an e-mail and get in touch there too.
As further general advice, keep in mind that joint pain usually indicates that there’s inflammation. When it comes down to it, in most cases, joint pain is caused by overuse of the joint. The reasons for this can be numerous and we’d have to have a closer look at your lifestyle to be more specific.
I hope this helps you with your problem. As said above, feel free to get in touch.
Get weel soon 🙂
Hi is it 1 teaspoon/tabkespoon how much do you take a day? Thank you
Hello Jaimi, thanks for your question.
It’s really up to you. I personally use 1 heaped teaspoon per cup. Occasionally I do 2.
Anything else I can help you with? 😀
